Orneta

Orneta – our next stopover along the Copernican Route. In this town, whose history goes back to the early 14th century, a visitor’s attention will be attracted by the Gothic Town Hall. It was erected in 1351 and its tower houses the oldest church bell in Warmia, made in 1384. Other places worth visiting include the John the Baptist and John the Apostle parish church, erected in 1350 -1370. It is one of the more interesting buildings in Warmia; it has been rebuilt and reconstructed several times. Nowadays, in its interior there is a high altar made in 1744, a chandelier from 1576, baroque side altars, 14th-century Gothic wall paintings and 15th-century paintings.
